Animal-based Feed: While mini parrotfish are omnivorous, they prefer animal-based feed. In artificial breeding, they can be fed more brine shrimp, red worms, earthworms, water fleas, mealworms, lean meat, animal organs, etc.
Synthetic Feed: Mini parrotfish can also eat some synthetic feed. Most synthetic feeds now have a comprehensive nutritional composition, which can meet most of their nutritional needs.
1. What Feed is Good for Mini Parrotfish
- Animal-based Feed: Mini parrotfish are omnivores, and their favorite feed is animal-based. They especially favor live food, so keepers can regularly feed them brine shrimp, red worms, water fleas, mealworms, earthworms, lean meat, animal organs, and other foods. These foods contain relatively high levels of protein and fat, which can meet most of their daily nutritional needs for growth and development.
- Synthetic Feed: Keepers can also choose to feed mini parrotfish synthetic feed, which is made according to the fish’s habits. The nutritional composition is relatively comprehensive, and it is easy to store. However, the nutrition in synthetic feed may not be sufficient, so keepers need to regularly feed some animal-based feed to ensure they get enough nutrition.
2. How Many Times a Day to Feed Mini Parrotfish
Mini parrotfish can be fed 1-3 times a day, depending on their growth stage and living environment. Normally, juvenile mini parrotfish need to be fed three times a day, as they have a smaller appetite but require more nutrition to grow and develop. Therefore, keepers should feed them small amounts at more frequent intervals. Adult mini parrotfish will have a larger appetite, so feeding them twice a day is sufficient. If the water temperature is lower, feeding them once a day will be fine.
