What Do Hexagonal Dragonfish Eat?

What Do Hexagonal Dragonfish Eat?

Expert Answer
Hexagonal dragonfish in their juvenile stage can eat foods such as bloodworms, earthworms, and brine shrimp. As they grow a bit older, they can consume krill, small fish fry, and fresh minced meat.

Once the hexagonal dragonfish reach adulthood, they can eat larger live food such as small goldfish, small carp, and large-headed shrimp.

Many keepers, for convenience, also feed them synthetic commercial food, which can provide them with sufficient nutrients.

Knowledge Expansion
Hexagonal dragonfish are amphibians, and their body size can reach around 20 cm when they mature, with some exceptional individuals growing up to about 40 cm. Hexagonal dragonfish that grow in the wild retain their juvenile form throughout their lives, and even though they grow larger, they cannot evolve into salamanders. In captive breeding, to encourage them to evolve into salamanders, the iodine ion content in the water can be increased, or thyroid hormones can be added to their food. Hexagonal dragonfish are pink or light pink in color, and their entire body is somewhat transparent, making them highly ornamental.
