Enlarged Abdomen: When female Betta fish in China are carrying eggs, their abdomen will become enlarged, and the entire belly will appear round and noticeably swollen.
Protruding Reproductive Opening: After carrying eggs, the lower abdomen of the female Betta will show a small white protrusion. This is their reproductive opening.
Abnormal Activity: After carrying eggs, the activity of female Betta fish will be reduced, and their movement will be less than usual.
How Betta Fish in China Reproduce
- Nest Building: During reproduction, the male Betta fish will first release bubbles to build a bubble nest. At this point, the female Betta fish, which is already carrying eggs, can be placed into the breeding tank to allow them to pair naturally.
- Breeding: Once a successful pair is formed, the male and female Betta will chase and play together. The male will wrap his tail fin around the female to help her release eggs. After the eggs are laid, the male will approach to fertilize them. Once fertilization is complete, the male will place the fertilized eggs into the bubble nest.
- Hatching: The male Betta will take responsibility for caring for the eggs. After 2-3 days, the eggs will successfully hatch. At this point, the male Betta can be removed from the tank.
