How Long Can Parrots Sunbathe in Winter?

How Long Can Parrots Sunbathe in Winter?

When raising parrots in general, the time they spend sunbathing each day should be controlled to about one to two hours. In winter, however, you can allow them to sunbathe a bit longer. This is because the winter sunlight is not as strong, and extra sun exposure can help them absorb more calcium and thoroughly kill bacteria and insects. However, it is important to avoid letting them sunbathe for too long, as this can lead to dehydration, which can cause illness or even death.

1. How Long Can Parrots Sunbathe in Winter?
When raising parrots under normal circumstances, they generally sunbathe for about one to two hours. In winter, you can let them sunbathe a bit longer. The sunlight in winter is less intense, so allowing them to stay in the sun for a bit longer won’t cause sunburn. More sunlight is beneficial for the growth of their feathers and also helps promote calcium absorption, accelerating their growth and development. Additionally, ultraviolet rays can help with sterilization and insect eradication, and extended sun exposure will be more thorough in this regard. However, if the sunlight is strong, it’s still important to control the time to prevent them from overexposing and becoming dehydrated. Dehydration can lead to illness or even death.

2. How Should Parrots Be Taken Care of in Winter?
In winter, parrots must be moved indoors. The outdoor temperatures are too low, and parrots are cold-sensitive birds, making it difficult for them to survive the winter. Once moved indoors, ensure the room temperature is suitable for them, and add a layer of windproof fabric to their birdcage to effectively prevent cold wind. During winter, do not bathe them too frequently; once every one to two weeks is sufficient. Choose warmer, sunny days to bathe them to prevent them from catching a cold or getting chilled.
