Grass carp love to eat aquatic plants. As one of the four major Chinese freshwater fish, and a typical herbivorous fish species, they are naturally lively and usually live in areas rich in aquatic plants, where they swim at a very fast pace. When raised in captivity, they can be fed rice seedlings, wheat seedlings, barley seedlings, and corn seedlings. They particularly prefer long-leafed grasses with parallel veins, and are less fond of clustered-leaf grasses with net-like veins.
