The Latin scientific name of the Golden Algae Eater is Gyrinocheilus aymonieri (Tirant, 1883).
When they’re young, Golden Algae Eaters mainly munch on algae. As they grow older, they usually eat brine shrimp, dried fish food, or other types of bait. These small fish help keep aquariums clean, so many people keep them as tank cleaners. But once they mature, they don’t fancy algae as much, so their cleaning abilities drop off. At that point, you’ll need to feed them synthetic feeds or live bait like bloodworms and tubifex worms. If food is scarce, they’ll even nibble on leftover scraps that other fish didn’t finish.
